as an industrial electrician i can tell you that the this could only have been done with PLC (programable logic control) which is complicated and expensive... a whole lot of wireing, a lot of relays, countless hours of programing and thought, no dought. either that or its fake... u be the judge. i think its real and would love to meet the person who did it. turn up your volume and Enjoy.

Apparently this guy filmed this over a few hours and then synched it to the music for the video. Still, remarkable stuff!

lol that is freaking sweet! my Microcontrol prof should get a kick out of that. But really u could probably do that with PLC and they arnt that expensive. (email mirochip.com and tell them ur a student engineer they will cost ya bout a quarter) That looks like a sweet thing to try this Xmas if i have the time. However i spent the past 10 weeks in a lab programming those damn things so i might not.

the PLC software is the expensive part.. unless u can get your hands on some dated stuff its gonna run u 5-10 thousand. you need a controler module to hold the program and a few AC relay/output modules connected to that. you can't switch that much current without decent sized relays (even the latest and greatest Allen-Bradley PLC rack(SLC 5000) couldn't handle it. the outputs on the AC output card/module energize the coils on the relays and that opens/closes the light circuits. you could use 12 or 24 vold DC outputs and relay coils but then u would have to buy decent size power supplies and switching DC that rapidly burns up the contacts in the cards/module, unlike AC. put each light on its own relay contacts document your coresponding PLC output. then get to programing in time with the music... really not all that hard but for one person it would be quite the job. not to mention hanging all the lights. i still think it is real... i could steal everything needed to do it from work.. i already have the software RSlogix5000 (rockwell). so im sure someone else could too.

Its not stealing if you work for the company, its product testing.

Microchip makes the PIC18F8722 with 70 I/0 ports Enhanced flash memory and alil over 100Mbytes of programable memory that you can get for about $160 bucks with the board. Or u could just get the chip alone for $15 -20. I'm sure your could get it to work off something like that.
