shit anyone can make a protest sign
And as for our parliamentary system is currently broken, in design less exploitable than a two-party system. Our Senate is not serving its purpose, it is what is supposed to protect regions and balance out "popular" vote.
Or you could look at a system like Sweden where the number of seats a party wins is based on the percentage of overall votes they have received.
The simpsons had it right when the aliens took over Dole and Clinton "Who you gonna vote for? Some independant? HAHAHA" and they took over the US. Maybe Im just picky but I like having more than two choices for anything let alone whos running a country. It always becomes the lesser of two evils, but Im guessing its anti-american to discuss such political reform and baby jesus is weeping on the American flag or something.

Cold war did. But way to address 1/4 of the statement.Quote:

No aspect of nazism will ever be very popular here. Socialism? I think we know socialism in the US is about as popular as the plague. Fascism? You can say more in the US against the government without official reprisal than anywhere in the world... and no dictator here will ever rule for more than 10 years. Racism? You just try to go in public here and pronounce a racist sentiment and see how far you get before you're dragged down and beaten like the dog you are.
No, that is a statement of opinion, and it is a flawed and prejudiced and poorly thought out one.
If you, for one second, thought that me posting that was anything but a mockery of the quote war here, then you are in dire and immediate need of a brain flush.Quote:

the cold war ended almost 20 years before the USSR (not comunism only ONE communist country) broke up due to economic and political reasons.
The only REAL war the US had in that time was the Vietnam war (although they called it a peace action), and well Vietnam is still to this day a communist country, so i don't think you can say war ended it.
the Cold war wasnt really a war, no weapons were used, nobody was invaded etc, it was merely an arms race to build weapons and stay ahead of the Russians.
*cough* Police Action *cough*
And the USSR even lied badly about what they had to scare the Americans into spending billions upon billions of dollars hehe.
Yet you replied to less than 1/4 of my post and dodged Arsons more poignant post completely. Well Done!Quote:

Well, then again... the reprisal is probably "unofficial". You may get away with some of it in the US, but by no means is it the most open to discussion.Quote:

I am quite sure the main reason the soviet communism failed is because the country went bankrupt trying to keep up with the U.S in an arms race. I have no idea if any thought it would work this way but.....
Arson, just because Canada didn't get to send in their peacekeeping forces and "be involved" doesn't mean the cold war wasn't a war. And if the cold war ended 20 years prior, why was the summit at Reykjavik about signing a nuclear weapon deceleration agreement?
Stifler, popular voting systems are the most disenfranchising, most unreasonable, most irresponsible and most unfair systems out there. When you have a truly majority rule, you basically make a system of government that is intolerant to the minorities. Why don't you ask the NAACP, the Rainbow Coalition, the Latinos, and the Jewish community if they really want to go to a popular vote. It's a great slogan when you think Bush stole an election, but past that its a moronic idea. And I thought we Republicans were the evil tread on people's best interest party. You really need to stop and consider all sides of a system of government. I sat through many a class researching and debating two-party, parliamentary, popular vote, first past the poll, etc voting systems. Popular vote is by far the one with the worst repurcussions.
It's like the flat tax idea. Yeah a flat tax sounds great. But do you really want multi-millionaires to stop paying 38% in federal income tax and start paying a flat rate. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to find that the flat tax rate is going to be way higher than the 10-14% promised by the proponents. When you 5% of Americans paying 50% of the tax burden and then all of a sudden they pay 15%, where the hell does the rest come from? Popular voting systems and flat taxes look great on the surface, but in the end they fuck everybody but the most powerful interests.
btw - Quistis should still DIRL (like this fucking thread)

The cold war wasn't a war because no armies engaged one another.
Well, the USSR invaded Hungary and the USA did something in Cuba (post-1945 history is so yawn), but that's not what the cold war refers to. It refers to the competition between the USSR and USA. And who engaged? Spies were killed (and still are when detected, I'm sure) and politicians said big, scary things on TV. But no shots were fired.
But the "Cold Dick Waving Contest" wouldn't have been acceptable in the media back then. Kennedy didn't want the filthy slavs thinking Americans had cold dicks, as the name might suggest.
The Afghan invasion which we supported Osama with guns, rockets, and money also helped to cripple the USSR a little.
Let quistis dirl have her thread back
